"Brown Tree Fern" - Dicksonia squarrosa "wheki"
An attractive medium sized tree fern with a slender brown trunk.
Fronds are smaller and more compact making it ideal as a container
or garden plant where space is limited. Fast growth rates of up
to 10cm (5in) a year. Grows to 3m (10ft) tall. Some protection should
be considered over the winter months in climates with temperatures
below 4-5 Celsius e.g. shadecloth cover or straw packed in the crown.

"Golden Tree Fern" - Cyathea smithii (Katote)
A beautiful tree fern with quite a thick hairy trunk producing large
soft yellow fronds. Grows to 3 meters (10ft) tall. Can tolerate
colder conditions but needs protection from the wind. Will thrive
in a cool moist position. If grown outdoors in cold climates, some
protection should be considered until plant is established.
3. Dicksonia fibrosa "wheki
ponga"
The pleasing symmetrical appearance and hardiness of this tree fern
make it a favorite. It is a slow grower but forms a very large trunk
up to 60 cm in diameter. Grows to 2-3 meters tall in a garden situation.
Likes cool moist conditions and can withstand temperatures below
-6 Celsius.

"Black Tree Fern" - Cyathea medullaris (Mamaku)
The tallest and fastest growing New Zealand tree fern, also known
as the "King" of the tree ferns. It can grow to 20 meters (66 ft)
tall. It has a black trunk with very large fronds 2-6 meters (7-20
ft) long. A dramatic specimen plant that does not tolerate colder
temperatures as well as some of the other varieties. It is easily
grown in a warmer climate or in a greenhouse/conservatory situation.

"Silver Tree Fern" - Cyathea dealbata
This is the New Zealand National Symbol, and is a Majestic tree fern
with mature fronds up to 3 meters (10 ft) long having a distinctive
silvery colour underside. Is easily grown in a sheltered situation
and eventually grows up to 10 meters (33 ft) tall. Trunk growth is
slower at 2.5 to 7.5 cm (1-3 in.) per year dependent on conditions,
but frond growth is rapid. Another warmer climate tree fern suited
for indoor/ conservatory situation.
